How to edit contacts on a Samsung Galaxy S2

When it comes to phone contacts we all know they change with some regularity. Whether a friend has gotten a new phone with a different number, moved house and got a new landline, changed their e-mail address or even if you've just made a mistake when you entered their number. In fact with some many options to change (including groups and caller ringtones) you may find yourself editing contacts on a semi-regular basis.

To edit a contact on your Samsung Galaxy S2 you will need to open the contact page
and find the specific contact, in this case the contact "Scott Graveson" will be used as an example. When inside the contact page for the person you would like to edit you need to press on the phone's "Menu" button. The menu button will open up 6 small options at the bottom of the screen as you can see in the image to the left of the screen. From this you need to select "Edit" which will then open up the edit contact screen.

The edit screen will look something like the image to the right hand side here. If you've been following these guides for a while you'll have seen a similar screen shot when we looked at adding a picture to a contact, though in all honesty there is much, much more to all this. If you click where the number is displayed you can edit the number, likewise you can edit the contacts name by clicking in the name display. To add extra phone numbers (Work, Home etc) you need to click on the small (+) symbol beside "Phone", like wise you can add work and personal e-mail address and by scrolling down you open up even more options.

Thanks to all the options available you can completely over-haul a contacts details in minutes for any type of change in their life. The editing is easily done and also allows you to delete numbers with the same ease that you can correct and edit them.

How to hide e-mail and facebook contacts from a Samsung Galaxy S2

I'm sure that everyone who has a new Samsung Galaxy S2 how synched the phone with their gmail account and most will have done the same for their facebook account and then noticed that their contacts list was full of people from those sites. Although it's a nice feature for some people many people seem to wish they could just see the list of contacts with phone numbers, this guide will show you how to hide those other contacts from various contact lists.
Firstly you need to open the contacts list and then press the phones menu button. This should result in a screen similar to the one on the right hand side with 6 options. The option you need to select is "More" and is in the bottom right hand corner by default. Pressing "More" should open a menu like the one on the left hand side. On this screen you need to select "Display options" (which is just above "Settings").

When you open the "Display options" you will notice a tick box near the top beside the option of "Only contacts with phone", you need to click this option and then you'll have hidden all those pesky E-mail and facebook contacts from your contacts list.

Of course if you want to re-add those contacts back to your contacts list you can fee free to go back and untick the box and they will reappear.

How to change the dock icons on a Samsung Galaxy S2

On all of the screens shots of my home screens you'll have noticed same 4 shortcuts along the bottom on all the images, "Phone", "Contacts", "Messages" and "Applications". I've noticed some people have been asking on forums if it was possible to change them and it is indeed possible to change 3 of them. This illustrated guide will hopefully help you if you ever wish the change them (personally I like them there and find them to be most useful there).

Firstly you need to click on the "Application" icon which will open up the application draw and can easily be over 10 pages of applications in size. When in the applications draw press on the phone's menu button. After doing that you will see something like the screen on the left with three options along the bottom "Edit", "List View" (or "Grid View" and "Share app". From this menu you need to select on the "Edit" option.

After clicking on "Edit" you will see a that the bottom icons have a sort of shadow around them and that "Applications" becomes "Home". Aside from the "Home" icon the other 3 can be dragged away from the bottom and put into one of the App pages. As well as being able to remove the the "Phone", "Contacts" and "Messages" icons you can pull down other icons.

If you look at this screen shot to the left hand side  you can see I've replaced the Contacts, Phone and Messages icons with "Camera", "Gallery" and "Videos" though you can replace those 3 slots with anything you wish so you could, for example place a browser there instead of the "Messages" icon.

Again this is just one of the more advanced (non-rooted) methods to personalise your phone and give it your own touch so use it to make the phone suit what you do with it.

How to add pictures to contacts on your Samsung Galaxy S2

If you've added a contact to your Samsung Galaxy S2 manually you'll have noticed that the contacts image is just a silhouette. As we can see in the image to the right Scott lacks a picture (not complaining, he does look a lot like a hobo) but he's asked me to add one to his contact. Doing this is simple but a little bit long winded.

Firstly we need to find the contacts profile, the screen that looks like the image to the right. On this screen we need to press the phones menu button to open up a small pop
up menu on the phone (see the image on the left). On this menu you need to select the "Edit" option in the top left hand corner.

If you look to the right here you'll see the edit contact screen,
and where the contacts picture should be you can see a small (+) symbol. By clicking on this part of the screen you will open up a small pop up allowing you to select either "Album" or "Take photo".

After you select to either take the picture or use one from your album you'll need to find the picture then resize it. When you're happy with the image click on "Save" on the image screen and then click on on the "Edit contacts" screen to save the profile with the picture.

Whenever the contact now calls or texts you it will act just as contacts from Facebook doing it where you see there image on the call screen and text conversation list.

Whilst this is easy enough to do you will need to remember that you will need a picture of the contact (or a picture that you want to use for the contact) and that doing them in bulk (for lots of contacts) can be relatively time consuming.

How to add contacts to your Samsung Galaxy S2

So we've just gotten some hotties number and now we want to add it to our phone so we can call them (but only after obeying Barney Stinson's 3-Day rule). Though how exactly do you add a new contact on to your Samsung Galaxy S2 smart phone?

Start by pressing the phone button on the front screen to open up a screen like the one on the right. From here you need to simply type in the new contacts number remember to include any area codes (for landlines) that you may need as your phone will need them to actually make a successful call.

After you start to input a number you will see an option to "Add to Contacts" appear under the number. When you finish typing the number press this little option. You will then be asked where
you want to save the contact to, either your Phone or your linked Google account. You select which here, though I'd recommend using your google account personally as it will still be there when you upgrade your phone as well.

When you've selected where you want to save it too you will have the chance to input a lot of information about the contact
(no not their vital statistics, hair colour or height) including name, e-mail address, IM address, Nicknames, even birthday.

Although it can be a little bit more effort than just typing in a number and adding the contact the Samsung Galaxy S2 (or SGS2) really does let you store a lot about your contacts. Infact if your the forgetful type it'll even help remind your about your anniversary (there is an anniversary option to store in the contacts, I kid you not). The contacts, should, sync up with your calender which is a wonderful little bonus and really does make life that little bit easier.

Remember also your contacts from Facebook if you've linked that accounts will be synced so you won't need to add everyone of those individually.
